It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything from Sam Sparro. Sam had everyone hooked on his hit Black & Gold, but what is in store for Sparro’s big follow up to his self-titled debut? The reason for Sam’s hiatus has been a greuling two and a half years writing and creating his new album titled Return To Paradise. What’s exciting is that he’s really found a genre and style that will make him stand out against other male-pop counterparts.

This time around, Sparro is being influenced and inspired by soul and funk music from 1978 to 1984. This rings very true in the lead-off single from the new album, The Shallow End. A sort-of love song to Los Angeles, Sparro sings about his adoration for the city and why he loves it so much. The track makes me want to fly down to LA, rent a convertible, a drive down Sunset Blvd during the sunset. I know, that’s quite descriptive but close your eyes when you’re listening to the track and you may feel the same way.

It has that summertime kind of feel. Sam also enlisted a ton of musicians to play on his new record including Jamiroquai founding bass player, Stuart Zender, Violinist Caitlin Moe, The Horn Section from Hercules and Love Affair and Midnight Magic, Charlie Wilcocks, Dave Wilder, Felix Bloxsom and Sam’s own brother and father on guitars. That makes up quite the team.
